History and Mission Statement
On May 28, 1885, land was
donated by Mrs. Abby M. Parrott for the establishment of St. John’s Cemetery
Today, this beautiful property continues to serve as a burial place for the
community. St. John’s Cemetery stands as a sacred reliquary for the great people
who were so much a part of the history and traditions of this community. St.
John’s is often referred to as the “Parrott Cemetery” or “San Mateo’s Hidden
Sanctuary”.
St. John’s Cemetery Graves Association was organized as a California non-profit
corporation on October 6, 1939. Its principal purpose is to accumulate funds to
provide for the ongoing care and maintenance of St. John’s Cemetery. St. John’s
is administered under a trust created by deed. A diverse group of interested
volunteers currently comprise the St. John’s Cemetery Graves Association that
accepts the responsibility for administering the funds and managing the
cemetery’s care.
